Healthy Downriver provides training and presentations designed to equip parents, educators, and school staff with the knowledge and tools to support youth in making healthy, informed decisions. Our programs cover topics such as substance use prevention, mental health awareness, and strategies for fostering a positive and supportive environment at home and in the classroom.

Understanding ACEs
This presentation introduces ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) it dives into the history, data collected and the effects that ACEs have on the individuals and those around them. We will talk about recognizing signs and symptoms as well as reframing how we look at trauma and behavior.
Beyond ACEs
This presentation will take us deeper into our understanding of ACEs, what happens when trauma goes untreated or recognized. We will discuss trauma, toxic stress and what this does to the developing brain. Then we will learn ways to lessen the harm caused by ACEs and build resilience and self-care.
Cultivating Healthy Friendships
This presentation discusses ways that we can engage our children and help them learn to recognize healthy friendships. When we are able to recognize healthy friendships and learn how to have open conversation with our children we can then help lead them to cultivating healthy friendships.
Vaping Trends
This presentation opens the door to the how, why and dangers of vaping for our children. We will go over what different vape pens look like, trends in hiding and getting them. We will discuss the dangers of vaping for youth and the effects that it has on their brains and development. Signs of use and having the conversation with your kid. This presentation will help to understand the whys of youth tobacco use and how to start a conversation weather your child is vaping or you just want to begin the prevention conversation.
Signs of Suicide
This presentation discusses the signs/symptoms of suicide and how you can help others who are thinking of dying by suicide. In this presentation we will also go over what you should do if someone discloses to you that they have a plan to harm themselves.
Trauma and Substance Use
Taking a look at the link between untreated trauma and the potential for substance use this presentation will dive into the things that make this a likely outcome (ACEs) and ways that we can recognize and work with our pain and discomfort in order to not need outside substances to cope. We will also explore how you can help someone who is relying on substances and the resources that are available to assist those that are in need.
